Under the artistic direction of award-winning concert pianist Jeffrey Panko, the Music@Bethel Concert Series is about to launch its 15th season. Organizers note the intimate sanctuary setting of Bethel United Church of Christ at 315 East St. Charles Road in Elmhurst plays host to some of the world’s most accomplished musicians and singers from the Chicago area.
Saturday concert lineup
The 2013-14 season begins with the "Choose Your Own Ending Recital" at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 2, featuring singers Genevieve Thiers and Katie Calcamuggio, accompanied by Saori Chiba. Audience members will choose what happens to the show’s heroine – whether she falls in love, gets married, has kids, gets a cat or even joins the convent.
Music@Bethel again presents two special performances by the world-renowned Chicago Children’s Choir at 3:30 and 7 p.m. Dec. 7. For a third year in a row, The Voice of Chicago choir will display its talent in a lively range of traditional favorites and seasonal selections from around the world during the "Christmas Celebration Concert" (special ticket pricing).
Grammy-nominated Guitarra Azul will perform at 7 p.m. March 8. Known for its virtuosity, memorable melodies and spirited dance, the ensemble will provide a mix of rumba, flamenco, Latin jazz and world sounds, with intoxicating Latin percussion and Spanish guitars.
Organizers announce that a 13-year-old sensation, pianist Victoria Young, will return to Music@Bethel at 4 p.m. May 10, "as an encore to last year’s stunning performance." A top-prize-winner in international competitions, Young is gracing concert halls throughout the world.
Admission for individual concerts costs $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $5 for students. Families (two adults, five children) can buy a family pass for $45. In addition, Music@Bethel offers a flex pass for six concert tickets to be used in any combination. Cost is $100 for adults and $90 for seniors.
The special Chicago Children’s Choir concert on Dec. 7 has tickets available online through www.musicatbethel.com. Ticket prices are $35 for preferred seating, $25 for general admission, $23 for seniors (65 and older), and $15 for youth (17 and younger). A special family ticket package for the 3:30 p.m. performance (two adults and up to five children) is available for $70.
