Spirito! Singers presents the Autumn Voices fundraising gala on Nov. 2, at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace, including entertainment by bass-baritone Bradley Garvin of the New York Metropolitan Opera.
The nonprofit organization describes its mission as helping young people develop character, discipline and civic responsibility in an environment of choral music education and community service.
At Autumn Voices this year, Spirito! will honor Dan Gibbons, senior development officer for Catholic Charities and former executive director of the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation, by awarding him the 2013 Spirito! Service Award for his work on behalf of the neediest in DuPage County and Chicago.
He founded the Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot, which has raised more than $2.7 million in the past 29 years to help relieve hunger in DuPage County. He will be presented with the award by the 2012 honoree, Rob Johnson, of CBS-2 News.
Proceeds from the gala will help support Spirito! programs, including public service events, college scholarships, financial aid, music theory education and training, professional concert performances, touring and recording.
Autumn Voices will include an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and a sit-down dinner, sweets and auctions, including seven days in Costa Rica, a 200-level suite at the United Center, a Gibsons Restaurant Group chef in one's home, a Zamboni ride at a Blackhawks game, and a trip to see royal palaces in London.
This year, a showcase raffle offers a chance to win a 2013 MacBook Pro with retina display valued at $1,500, and everyone who secures a ticket before Oct. 21, receives a complimentary chance at an iPad mini.
The gala will be punctuated by performances by the three ensembles of Spirito! – and a special guest appearance by Garvin.
The event sold out in 2012. Visit www.spiritosingers.org for event and raffle tickets.
