Elgin Symphony Orchestra to play movie greats by John Williams
By SUBURBAN LIFE MEDIA
Movie scores by John Williams power this weekend's program by the Elgin Symphony Orchestra. Guest soloist is Timothy McAllister, a premier concert saxophone performer. Guest conductor is Matthew Kraemer of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
McAllister's solo, orchestral and chamber music recordings appear on Naxos and numerous other labels. He serves as professor of saxophone and co-director of the Institute for New Music at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music.
The concert will include music from "Superman," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Warhorse" and many other favorites.
Concerts are offered in Schaumburg and Elgin, and are described as a fun, relaxing, cultural experience. Patrons can enjoy a drink, time with friends and even shopping in the lobby of the Hemmens Cultural Center in Elgin, the orchestra's home. After Saturday night performances, the audience is invited to “Mingle with the Musicians” at the Elgin Public House.
Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, in Schaumburg's Prairie Center for the Arts. Concerts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, will be performed in Elgin’s Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way.
